Child-Friendly Privacy Notice

Who are we?

We are Flourish Tutoring and we support young people (and sometimes adults) with their learning. Sometimes we help identify if someone has a learning difficulty called dyslexia.

This Privacy Notice tells you how we use your personal data, so you know what happens with it when you give it to us.

Personal data? What’s that?

Anything that can be used to identify you is your personal data. You might already know this could be things like your name or a photo of you, but it is also things like your email address.

Flourish Tutoring uses a lot of personal data. We use information about you when we help you with your learning and sometimes if we have been asked to help find out if you need extra support at school.  If you want to know more, please ask an adult to help you read the entire Privacy Notice.

Why do you need my personal data?

The main reason we need to use your personal data is to know how best to help you with your learning, and sometimes, to help identify if you have a specific learning difficulty called dyslexia.

If we don’t have your personal data, it means we might not be able to help you as fully as possible, or we might make a wrong decision about your learning.

If you want to know more about what we are doing with your personal data, you can ask an adult to read the full Privacy Notice with you to help you understand the details.

So, can you just use my personal data for anything?

Nope! We can only use your personal data for certain reasons.

We need to use your personal data to do our work and deliver the service to you, and we can do this without asking you first, unless you are 12 years old or over.

Other times, we need to get consent from you or your parents. If you or your parents (or carers) say no then we won’t (and can’t) use your personal data.

Can anyone else see my personal data?

Sometimes we need to share your personal data to do our work. We’re very careful about how we do this, which means there are even more rules.

We might need to share your data with your family if they are helping you. Also, we might need to share your data with other people, such as your Support for Learning teacher at school or your doctor or optician but we will make sure you/your parents/guardian know about this first.

Do you keep my personal data forever?

We are only allowed to keep your personal data for as long as we need it.

We will only keep your end of term tutoring reports for one year after your last tutoring session, unless it looks like you’re coming back for more sessions.

If you have come to me for support with dyslexia, then I must keep your report and test results until you are 25.

I keep any contract your parent/guardian or you have signed and any consent forms we have agreed too.  These are kept for 7 years after we finish tutoring or after the completion of your dyslexia report.

We will make sure anything we don’t need any more is securely destroyed

There is more information about this in the full Privacy Notice and you can ask an adult to explain this to you if you want to know.

Do I have a say in what happens to my personal data?

Yes, you do. You have what we call ‘rights’ when we use your data. One of these is the right to know what we do with it. That’s what this page is for.

You can ask us to tell you what personal data we have about you, or you can tell us to stop using it or delete it. If your personal data is wrong or incorrect, you can tell us and we will fix it.

The rights you have depend on what we use your data for, and there is a lot more information in our full Privacy Notice. Please ask an adult to help you read it.

Who makes sure you follow all the rules?

Flourish Tutoring staff follow rules which have been decided in a document called the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). There is a person called the Information Commissioner who makes sure that we follow these rules. They work in the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office).

If you are worried that we are doing something wrong, please contact us.  If we can’t help you, or you are still worried, staff at the ICO will be able to help you and you can contact them here:  Make a complaint | ICO or by phone on 0303 123 1113.  Always make sure you speak to your parent/guardian or another adult you trust first.
